What is EPOS for…
The European Plate Observing System (EPOS) simplifies the integrated use of data, data products, and facilities from distributed research infrastructures for Solid Earth Science in Europe.
TCS GNSS Data and Products
Thematic Core Service (TCS) EPOS GNSS Data and Products provides access to GNSS data, metadata and products (position time-series, velocity fields and strain rate maps), which can be used for a wide range of applications in Solid Earth Sciences and beyond. It spans diverse domains: reference frame issues, active tectonics, seismology, volcanology, hydrology, surface loading among others.
GLASS or Geodetic Linking Advanced Software System integrates data, products, and associated metadata accessible at three main portals. GLASS is a set of software, tools, procedures for storing, quality control to make available data and derived products.
Considering GNSS stands for Global Navigation Satellite System, EPOS TCS GNSS Data and Products is about positions of stations measured using satellite observations, i.e., GNSS observations. So, the products are derived from these observations and are positions, velocities (representing the motion of the tectonic plates) and strain rate maps (showing regions where the tectonic plates are diverging or colliding).
For the data distribution service, GNSS Data and Products focuses on data (RINEX files) from CORS (Continuously Operating Reference Stations) that are periodically available, hours or days, after data acquisition. By connecting all data and associated products (using dedicated processing) from a set of distributed repositories through GLASS, GNSS Data and Products offers to researchers in Solid Earth science and other sciences a consistent platform to access and use GNSS data and products (and associated metadata).
This unique tool is useful for everyone who needs to count on reliable data for being able to support research by accessing only one integrated system with data from many European GNSS stations.
